How to use the youtube transcript summarizer

  1. On YouTube, open the video, press “…more” under it, then Show transcript. Select all the transcript text and copy it. (.srt or .vtt caption text works too.)
  2. Paste it here. Cue numbers and repeated caption lines are cleaned automatically.
  3. Press Summarize to get key moments you can jump to.

Why paste the transcript instead of the link?

YouTube does not let other websites reliably download transcripts, and tools that scrape them break often. Copying the transcript takes ten seconds and always works, including for videos in other languages. If a video has no transcript button, the creator has disabled captions and there is nothing to summarize.

Questions people ask

Where do I find a YouTube transcript?

On desktop: open the video, expand the description with “…more”, and press Show transcript. The transcript opens beside the video; select and copy it. In the mobile app, the same option is in the description panel.

Will timestamps be kept?

Yes. Key moments start with the nearest timestamp from your transcript, like [04:12], so you can jump to that point.

How long a video can I summarize?

Up to 60,000 characters of transcript, roughly an hour of speech. Long transcripts are summarized in sections and merged automatically.
