How to use the text shortener

  1. Paste your text. The word count shows below the box.
  2. Drag Target length to the word limit you need (10 to 600 words).
  3. Press Shorten text, then check the result with the word counter before you submit.

Shortening is not summarizing

A summary reports what a text says, usually in the third person (“The author argues…”). A shortened text still is the text: same voice, same tense, same structure, just fewer words. That is what you need for an application essay over its limit, an abstract that must fit 250 words, a bio for a conference programme or a product description for a marketplace.

The shortener aims to land within about 10% of your target, cutting repetition and secondary examples first and keeping key facts and figures.

Tips for cutting by hand

Delete the first sentence of each paragraph if it only warms up; cut adverbs and intensifiers like “very” and “really”; replace phrases with single words; and remove one example where you gave two. Usually that alone trims 10 to 20 percent.

Questions people ask

Can I shorten text to an exact number of words?

You can set a target from 10 to 600 words. AI output usually lands within about 10% of the target, so check the count and trim the last few words by hand if you have a hard limit.

Will it keep my writing style?

Yes. It is instructed to keep your voice, tense, person and paragraph structure, and not to add headings or commentary.

What is the difference between a text shortener and a summarizer?

A summarizer reports the main points of a text in condensed form. A shortener keeps the text itself, only with fewer words.
