How to use the paragraph summarizer

  1. Paste a single paragraph (a few long paragraphs also work).
  2. Keep Paragraph for a one- or two-sentence version, or pick Bullets for a quick list.
  3. Press Summarize and adjust the wording to your voice.

The one-sentence test

Most well-written paragraphs make one point. If you can say that point in one sentence, you understood the paragraph; if you cannot, you probably need to reread it. This tool gives you that sentence to compare against your own, which is a fast way to check comprehension while studying.

It also works in reverse when writing: summarize your own paragraph, and if the result is not the point you meant to make, the paragraph needs a clearer topic sentence.

Questions people ask

How short will the summary be?

One or two sentences, usually 15 to 40 words, whatever the paragraph length.

Is this the same as paraphrasing?

No. Paraphrasing restates the whole passage in different words at a similar length. Summarizing keeps only the main point, so it is much shorter.

Can I summarize several paragraphs?

Yes, but for multi-paragraph text the main AI text summarizer on the home page gives you more control over length and format.
