How to use the meeting & transcript summarizer

  1. Export or copy the transcript from your meeting tool (most save it as .txt or .docx; both can be uploaded).
  2. Keep Key points for minutes-style notes, or open More options to focus on a topic such as “budget”.
  3. Press Summarize and paste the action items into your follow-up email.

What good meeting notes contain

People who missed a meeting want to know three things: what was decided, who is doing what by when, and what is still open. The transcript summarizer is built around those, and lists an action item only when someone in the transcript actually committed to it.

For lectures and interviews, the decisions section simply disappears and you get the main points in order, with timestamps or speaker names so you can find the passage in the recording.

Long recordings

An hour of speech is roughly 8,000 to 9,000 words. SmartSummarize takes up to 60,000 characters (about 9,000 to 10,000 words) and splits long transcripts into sections, summarizes each, then merges them into one set of notes.

Questions people ask

How do I get a transcript of my Zoom or Teams meeting?

Both offer transcripts if they were enabled for the meeting. In Zoom, cloud recordings include an audio transcript file; in Microsoft Teams, the transcript appears in the meeting chat or recap and can be downloaded as .docx. Google Meet saves transcripts to the organiser’s Google Drive.

Can I upload the transcript file?

Yes. Upload .txt, .docx or PDF; the text is extracted in your browser.

Does it work for lectures?

Yes. You get an overview and the main points in order, which makes a good starting point for revision notes.

Is it OK to paste confidential meetings?

Text is sent to the AI only to make the summary and is not stored by SmartSummarize, but follow your organisation’s policy on third-party AI tools.
